How to connect Axis cameras to Tentovision (RTSP, ONVIF & VAPIX)

Axis cameras have the best ONVIF conformance in the industry — Axis co-founded the standard — so connecting them to Tentovision is the smoothest setup of any brand. It takes about five minutes.

  1. Find the Axis camera IP address

    Use the free AXIS IP Utility (from axis.com), which auto-discovers every Axis camera on the network, or check the device list in Axis Camera Station.

  2. Confirm ONVIF is enabled

    ONVIF is enabled by default on most current Axis cameras. If not, open the camera web interface and go to Settings → System → ONVIF, then create a dedicated ONVIF user. Axis cameras support ONVIF Profile S and Profile T natively.

  3. Note the RTSP URL

    Axis uses the axis-media path on default port 554:

  5. Pair and discover

    Scan the QR code on the adapter with the Tentovision app to register it to your account. Axis cameras auto-discover over ONVIF immediately — typically the fastest of any brand.

  6. Verify the live feed

    Confirm each live feed in the dashboard, then set recording mode (continuous, motion, or hybrid) and cloud retention per camera. Axis Zipstream compression is preserved during cloud recording — no transcoding.

  • "RTSP path not working" — use /axis-media/media.amp rather than /onvif-media/media.amp; the former is the native Axis path.

  • "Zipstream compatibility" — Tentovision records H.264 and H.265 including Zipstream-encoded streams, with no transcoding required.
